ARTIST STATEMENT
“My name is Angelina Villalobos, but ever since I was little, people just called me Angel. My artist name is OneSevenNine, which is an arbitrary name, something picked like you would a random wildflower.
Growing up in Yakima I grew up in country life, with chickens, Ranchero music, cowboy boots and home-made tamales. It was like little Mexico. Then suddenly I was moved to Seattle, where Metro buses, big buildings and concrete ruled. (And there was not a Mexican besided my family in sight). It was all very confuding. I think I have sorted most of it out. My identity is in my heart, in my voice as an artists, and my soul.
I am currently showing in Locust, a clothing store in Bellingham. I have an Artists of the Month Feature planned for January at Twilight Gallery located in the Pike Place Market. I paint murals with kids, freelance graphic design and volunteer to save the world one child at a time on my days off. I live and breathe Seattle, especially Beacon Hill. My grandparents are my heros and my mother is an inspiration to trying my best. Spiritually I am Catholic, Culturally I am Hip Hop and those are the foundations that make me proud to be me.”
