Mononoke Tribute Piece

Presenting my piece for the upcoming show A Child’s Heart (A tribute to the works of Hayao Miyazaki). I am really excited for this show! Not only did I get to paint one of my most favorite characters from my most favorite anime but I am going to see some of my dearest art friends do the same. Seeing other people’s take on the inspirations I’ve formed personal connections with is exciting.

In this piece I decided to make Sen looks as childlike as possible. We meet her in her teens in the anime, but what was she like as a 8-year old? While I painted I wondered about this little wolf-cub.

Below is the sketch. As you can see I didn’t veer to off from the original plan. Generally I don’t much these days. It’s good to map out placement and what shapes are in relation to each other but I find my concepts are more concrete and defined before I step to the paper.
